Banff & Kootenay National Parks
Depart Banff at 8:00am and travel west through spectacular Banff National Park and then up and over
Vermilion Pass into Kootenay National Park (Hwy 93 South). As you enter Kootenay National Park you will cross the continental divide where water flows east and west towards either the Atlantic Ocean or the Pacific Ocean. You will travel over two mountain passes and see spectacular Castle Mountain (2,766 m /9,075 ft) and Storm Mountain (3100m /10171ft.). Kootenay National Park is virtually untouched by development and is the least visited of the four mountain parks. Your driver will point out spectacular mountain views and you will see the headwaters of the mighty Kootenay River and abundant opportunities to view wildlife along the way.
Columbia River Wetlands: Shortly before arrival at Toby Creek Adventures you will see the world-famous Columbia Wetlands a 15,070 hectare wetland in the Columbia Valley. The Columbia Wetlands is a breath-taking natural wilderness and one of the world’s living treasures. This is also the headwaters of the Columbia River, which is 1,243 miles (2,000 km) long, the largest river in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. The Columbia River drains an area roughly the size of France, it’s watershed extends into seven U.S. states and all of the south-east interior of British Columbia.
